Mighty Rivers the day before Nottingham Freshers Week
From the town on Manali in North India I met up with the others and planned out trip down the Chandra and parts of the Chenab. We then headed to the Sutlej and Andy and I paddled from Rampur down for a few days before the river all flowed under a mountain in 2 great big pipes. It was then off to Rishikesh to check out some of the rivers on the Ganges before pretty much bee lines to Nottingham to start uni.
The most memorable event being involved in helping the Indian army retrieve a dead body that was washed up on rocks in the middle of the mighty Sutlej. A very sobering experience but we were glad we could help. Also by total coincidence I had to extract a 10-day-deceased body from a partly submerged jeep the next day. A horrible task but the family of the deceased man actually watch us do it and thanked us. For a full report read here.
Paddling the upper reaches of the Sutlej from near the Tibetan boarder is on my wish list.
Me and Andy headed off to the Ganges for a few days paddling some fantastic rivers near the source of the holy Ganges. An incredible experience whoch left me with 4 hours at home before I had to start at Nottingham Uni
