I first got into kayaking through canoe slalom competitions. I absolutely loved the sport – the combination of speed, endurance, skill, white water, precision and competition. I toured with U16 GB squad to Slovakia and with World Class Start to Metz, Augsburg and Bratislava. I decided to retire from competitive slalom before my gap year when selection for U18 GB team for the Pre-World Championships escaped me by a wrongly given penalty! I have slalom to thank for a lot as It gave me many of the fundamental skills I needed to take on rivers in the Himalayas the following year. I also should thank my parents for driving me around the country to a cold river bank for 3 minutes of competition, they loved it!
If you want to get into slalom then get in touch with the BCU or check out http://www.canoeslalom.co.uk/info/precision.htm. Alternatively just get in touch with me and I will see what I can do.
